Location

Tournus is a gastronomic city halfway between north and south of the country. Its location allows you to spend a weekend 3 hours away from Paris, or to stop off to winter sports resorts or to the Mediterranean.

Situated on the banks of the Saône, Tournus is the highlight of the South Burgundy wine route, at the crossroads of the Chalonnais and the Mâconnais vineyards. An ideal place to discover the Burgundian heritage during a leisure or business stay.

Vineyards

The territory of the Burgundy tourist wine route extends from the Auxerrois to the Mâconnais. Its vineyards cover about 29500 hectares and benefit from 84 AOCs. Mainly made from pinot noir and chardonnay.

The "route des vignobles de l'Yonne" (Yonne vineyard route), as its name suggests, crosses the department of Yonne. One of the king wines of this route is Chablis. Regarding visits, the traveller is spoiled here: Auxerre, Tonnerre, Vézelay...

The "route des grands crus de Bourgogne" is considered a royal road. It crosses the part of the Côte-d'Or where the most prestigious vineyards are located. After visiting Dijon, you reach the old village of Marsannay, then the canton of Gevrey-Chambertin and the vineyards of Nuits-Saint-Georges. After that, it's on to the Côte de Beaune (a town that deserves a stop, especially for its hospices), Pommard, Volnay and Meursault .

The "Route des Grands Vins" is an extension of the "Route des Grands Crus" from Santenay. Up to Saint-Gengoux-le-National, it takes you to discover the Côte Chalonnaise as you pass from one charming village to another: vineyards, hedged farmland, Romanesque churches, castles, the Canal du Centre...

The "route des vins Mâconnais-Beaujolais" takes you to the Saône-et-Loire; it is lined with "Follow the bunch" signs. This is where the wines of Mâcon, Pouilly, Saint-Véran, Passetoutgrain and Viré-Clessé come from. By reaching the Rhône, you reach the Beaujolais area (Saint-Amour, Juliénas, Chénas, Moulin-à-vent, Fleurie, Chiroubles, Morgon, Régnié, Côte de Brouilly, Brouilly).
